Olifantsnek Dam Olifantsnek Dam, is an arch type dam located on the Hex River, near Rustenburg, North West, South Africa. It was established in 1929. The dam has a capacity of 14,200,000 cubic metres and a surface area of 272 hectares, the wall is 30 metres, and has a length of 129 metres Height : 30 m Opened : 1929 Catchment area : 492 km² Owner : Department of Water and Sanitation Location : Near Rustenburg , North West Baits Paint, BMT, Caramel Supreme, Pienk Sweets This dam is very close to Rustenburg. Grassy banks make is a bit difficult to fish. Maybe a good spot for day visitors but not for a family outing. Catching barbel will be the best bet although there is rumours of some nice carp between 10-16 kg .
